Job description:

Faculty Positions in  Experimental High Energy Physics

The Physics and Mathematics Department at the University of Colima is seeking
candidates for two positions in experimental high energy physics at the “intensity frontier”. Both openings are at the level of "Profesor Titular A” (equivalent to the US assistant professor level) and are scheduled to begin in August 2016.

The Physics and Mathematics Department at UCOL, established 14 years ago, has very  intensive and successful undergraduate programs in Physics and Mathematics. It is  currently composed of 12 researchers (5 in Physics) devoted mainly to theoretical areas.

The two successful candidates will participate in the creation of a new experimental group  in the "Intensity Frontier" area. The new group will be expected to join an international  collaboration at a major laboratory such as the High Energy Accelerator Research  Organization (KEK), J-PARC or Fermilab (current participants of any such collaboration  are encouraged to apply).

Thus, besides having a strong research record, the successful candidates should be  interested in actively contributing to the creation of the new experimental group (two  additional openings are planned within the next two years).

The successful candidates are expected to participate in the formulation of a startup grant  proposal involving the specific collaboration and project at the international laboratory. This  proposal is to be submitted to the Mexican Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología  (CONACYT) within the first six months after the appointment.

Some relevant information:

- The successful candidates must participate in teaching and advising of students from the undergraduate programs at UCOL. They must have the capacity and  willingness to incorporate undergraduate level physics and mathematics students  into research.

- Knowledge of Spanish is not required (Junior and Senior level classes are held in  English). It is expected however, that an effort will be made to learn it.

--The successful candidates will be entitled to spend up to six months per year at the  international laboratory (carried out in one or several visits).

Requirements and Application procedure:

Interested applicants should have a PhD in
experimental high energy physics and at least one postdoctoral experience (for Mexican  applicants experience outside of Mexico is necessary).

In order to apply please send a complete CV, a brief statement of your current and future  research plans (including the proposed collaboration), a statement of teaching philosophy  and experience, and at least three letters of recommendation. All materials and inquiries  should be sent electronically to Dr. Alfredo Aranda (fefo@ucol.mx) (please arrange for the  letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the same email address).

The deadline for applications is March 1, 2016.
