Job description:

The Particle Physics Experiment (PPE) group of the University of Edinburgh wishes to appoint a Senior Electronics Engineer. The group participates in the upgrades of the ATLAS and LHCb experiments and is expanding its activities to future neutrino experiments (Hyper-Kamiokande and DUNE). We seek an experienced electronics engineer to contribute to these collaborative activities by the design and development of electronics for data acquisition, read-out and experiment control.

You will have a degree or as minimum a HND/HNC in electronics engineering and a suitable record of experience to design and build fast analogue and digital high-multiplicity readout systems. You are expected to be able to design circuits for small, fast analogue signals in a compact, high channel multiplicity environment and to master the design challenges for RF grade signal transmission. You are familiar programming FPGAs and skilled using modern test electronics.

In addition to the design and development work you will coordinate the production of electronics for the PPE detector building activities. You will develop and maintain the expertise in the operation of sophisticated test and production equipment in the Advanced Detector Development Centre of the group to become the technical lead person of the centre, accumulating experience and training and supervising less experienced users to facilitate efficient and high-quality results.

You will be self-motivated and will work independently in collaborative teams of people with complementary expertise. Your expert input is expected to become important for future directional decisions of the PPE group.

The appointment is for two years in the first instance with the possibility of extension. The closing date for application is 21 November 2016, the appointment to begin as soon as possible thereafter.

Please go to https://www.vacancies.ed.ac.uk/ and use reference number 037790 to apply.

Deadline: 21st November 2016

For informal enquiries, please contact Prof. Franz Muheim (f.muheim@ed.ac.uk) and Dr. Stephan Eisenhardt (s.eisenhardt@ed.ac.uk).
