Field of Interest:hep-ex, physics.ins-det
Experiments:CERN-LHC-CMS
Region: Europe
Job description:
The Experimental Particle Physics group at Ghent University, Belgium is currently involved in physics research within CMS at the LHC, IceCube at the South Pole, and SoLid at the SCK-CEN in Belgium. In addition, the group is active in detector R&D within the CMS, RD51 and CALICE Collaborations. Within CMS, the Ghent group made substantial contributions to the operation and upgrade of the Muon Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) system and is also involved in the Phase-2 muon system upgrades based on Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) technology.
To sustain our contribution to detector R&D and production for CMS, we are seeking applications of qualified candidates for one PhD student position. The position is available immediately, with a typical duration of 4 years to obtain the PhD degree. Applicants must hold a Master degree in Physics (or equivalent) or expect to obtain their degree in the near future.
Applications including a short motivation letter and a curriculum vitae should be sent in pdf format to the email address mentioned below. Applicants should arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the same address.
Review of candidates will begin upon receipt of completed applications, and will continue until the position is filled.
Further information can be obtained from Dr. Michael Tytgat (Michael.Tytgat@UGent.be).
