Job description:
The experimental astroparticle group at the University of Hamburg is one of the funding members of the H.E.S.S. experiment and the CTA project. The group offers a PhD position for three years through a DFG grant on the development of data-driven methods to calibrate the energy scale of air Cherenkov telescopes.

Following and extending the approach of cross-calibrating ground-based gamma-ray telescopes with the Fermi-LAT instrument [arXiv1008.4524:], we extend the technique using more data and two more methods to calibrate the energy scale of Cherenkov telescopes using air shower data from the H.E.S.S. telescopes. The successful applicant  has a recent university degree (M.Sc. or equiv.) in Physics and experience in experimental astroparticle physics. Please provide a C.V., transcript of record, a short statement of motivation and summary of experience. The CV should include at least one contact to obtain a letter of reference. The complete application should be sent as a pdf.
