Job description:
Post-Doctoral Fellow on ATLAS
University of Pennsylvania
The University of Pennsylvania is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Fellow position to work on the ATLAS experiment at CERN. The Penn ATLAS group plays a large role in the electronics, data acquisition, and performance of the Transition Radiation Tracker (TRT), in object identification (especially in electrons and photons), and in ATLAS triggering. We also have broad participation in ATLAS upgrades, focusing on the on-detector electronics for the silicon strip detectors of ITK and on improvements to the trigger. Our current physics analyses span a broad range and encompass studies of the Higgs in the Hgg and Hzz channels, search for invisible Higgs decays, and a variety of SUSY/Exotic searches. Our immediate priority is for someone interested in playing a large role in the TRT data acquisition and electronics. An essential element of this responsibility is for the candidate to be based at CERN during data taking in 2017 and during the startup and operation of the detector in 2018. Ideally, the successful candidate would begin in Fall 2016 or Winter/Early Spring 2017 in order to optimally participate in TRT operation during the 2017 run. Of course we also expect that the candidate will play a leadership role in physics analysis; he or she will have wide latitude in the choice of physics topic, although some synergy with existing analyses could be helpful. Our group currently has a large number of excellent graduate students and a very strong instrumentation/electronics group, in addition to several other outstanding postdoctoral fellows. We will begin considering applications as soon as they are received and will continue doing so until the position is filled.
For further information on the Penn ATLAS group, please contact Prof. Brig Williams (williams@hep.upenn.edu), Professor Joseph Kroll (kroll@hep.upenn.edu), Professor Evelyn Thomson (thomsone@physics.upenn.edu), or Professor Elliot Lipeles (lipeles@cern.ch).
Applicants should submit the following (electronic version by E-mail):
* A letter of application indicating your particular interests and talents.
* C.V.
* Selected bibliography that highlights personal contributions
* Brief statement of research interest
* At least three references
to kulynych@physics.upenn.edu. Interested applicants should arrange for the recommendation letters to be sent as soon after application as possible.
The University of Pennsylvania is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer. Applications from women and minority candidates are especially encouraged
