UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SANTA CRUZ
Department of Physics

Assistant Professor, Theoretical Particle Physics & Cosmology

The Department of Physics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in theoretical high-energy physics, cosmology, or particle astrophysics. The theoretical particle and particle-astro physics/cosmology faculty currently includes Professors Anthony Aguirre, Michael Dine, Howard Haber, Stefano Profumo, and Emeritus Professor Joel Primack. The theory group is part of the Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics (SCIPP), which also sustains strong experimental and observational efforts in particle physics, high-energy astrophysics, and cosmology.  SCIPP physicists play leading roles in the ATLAS experiment, the Fermi Large Area Telescope, CTA, the Dark Energy Survey, and LSST. Theorists and experimentalists maintain close connections with the Astronomy and Astrophysics Department and The University of California Observatories (UCO), headquartered at UC Santa Cruz.

The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and potential for leadership in their sub-field. Candidates are expected to complement the existing experimental and theoretical strengths in the Department, to develop a vigorous research program, to supervise graduate students and their research, and to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service.
