Experiments:HPS, LDMX
Region: North America
Job description:
The SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking applicants for an experimental Research Associate position to work on the Heavy Photon Search (HPS) experiment and to help develop future Hidden Sector Physics searches. HPS is an accelerator-based search for a hidden sector photon being conducted at Jefferson Lab. It is currently preparing its first results from data taken in 2015 and 2016 and planning future runs in 2018 and beyond. Work on HPS will encompass upgrading the Silicon Vertex Detector (SVT), maintaining and operating the SVT data acquisition system, monitoring SVT performance and improving alignment, and conducting HPS physics analyses. The HPS group is also helping to develop the LDMX proposal to search for hidden sector dark matter using a missing-momentum approach and is exploring other possible hidden sector searches as well. The SVT upgrade entails the addition of a new tracking layer which will significantly boost the experiment's reach and provide hands-on experience with building, testing, and installing silicon microstrip detectors. The successful candidate is expected to have significant experience in instrumentation and physics analysis.
