Field of Interest:physics-other
Deadline: 2016-10-16
Region: Europe
Job description:
Looking for a new challenge in Science?
Join the ESRF, the European Synchrotron!
The ESRF, the European Synchrotron, is an international research facility based in Grenoble, France. Thanks to high-level, innovative engineering and cutting-edge vision, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research institutions worldwide, welcoming more than 6 500 scientists every year in fields such as biology, medicine, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials and surface science, and physics. The ESRF is supported by 21 countries and employs 600 staff.
We are currently seeking to recruit a:
Post-doctoral Fellow
for the microdiffraction imaging beamline ID01 in the X-ray Nanoprobe group
Time-limited position
ref. PDID01-2
JOB DESCRIPTION
You will participate in ongoing in-house research programmes and the operation of Beamline ID01, providing support to external users / collaborators as a local contact, and develop a personal research project making use of and developing the unique methods offered at ID01. A particular focus may be the use of small beams for strain and structural imaging to systems at operando or process conditions. This may range from solar cells over microelectronic devices to wet and dry chemical processes as observed in batteries.
ID01 is a beamline that delivers sub-micron sized x-ray beams and aims to exploit the capabilities of local diffraction, coherent diffraction and full field microscopy techniques. These methods can generally be described as strain microscopy with differing fields of view and resolutions. ID01 started user operation in 2015 after a major upgrade in the framework of Phase I of the ESRF upgrade programme. ID01 is competitive over a wide energy regime reaching from 6 to 35 keV and can accommodate sample environments while routinely offering beamsizes down to 100 nm.
Further information may be obtained from T. Schulli (tel.: +33 (0)4 76 88 22 80, email: schulli@esrf.fr).
PROFILE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
WORK CONDITIONS
Contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 to 18-month period.
The annual gross salary will be 41,8 k€ and additional allowances may apply.
The ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity.
If you are interested in this position, please apply online by 16 October 2016.
