Department of Physics and Astronomy
Stony Brook University
The Department of Physics & Astronomy (http://www.physics.sunysb.edu/Physics/) at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position in the field of High Energy/Collider Physics initially associated with the ATLAS experiment. In some circumstances, a joint appointment with Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) may be considered. The expected start date is September 2016.
The Stony Brook HEP group’s ATLAS research encompasses studies of Electroweak processes and searches for new physics using Higgs and diboson final states. Our group is involved in LAr calorimeter trigger upgrades, silicon tracker upgrades and forward detector development. We are the lead institution managing NSF funding for the Phase I upgrades and for proposed operations program support. We also closely collaborate with the BNL ATLAS efforts.
The Department benefits from its highly ranked faculty in research and teaching, excellent students, and close affiliation with experimental and theoretical research centers of international reputation, and its proximity to BNL. We have strong ties with phenomenology and theory faculty through proximity to the Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics and to the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics. We also host a Center for Accelerator Research and Education: a collaboration between Stony Brook & BNL since 2008.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated research credentials in accelerator-based High Energy Physics research, the ability to attract independent research funding and a keen interest in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the department. The applications should be submitted at: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/5833 Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, copies of up to three recent papers, a research statement, a statement of teaching philosophy, and names (and affiliation) of at least three references. The candidate should use the options provided at the WEB site to request the letters of references. The review of applications will start on October 15, 2015. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but to receive full consideration applications should be submitted by Dec. 15.
Electronic submission via academicjobsonline is strongly preferred.
Alternatively, applicants may submit the application materials by mail to: Nathan Leoce-Schappin, Department Administrator, P-104 Physics Bldg., Stony Brook, NY 11794-3800. For questions, please contact Nathan.leoce-schappin@stonybrook.edu.
Stony Brook University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Applications from women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged.
