Job description:
The Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel) is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow for the Experimental Astroparticle Physics group, with emphasis on Dark matter direct detection with noble liquids.
Our group is engaged in several topics within the fields of High-Energy, Astroparticle Physics and Detector Physics, and participating in the XENON program, a direct dark matter search using two-phase xenon technology. The XENON1T detector has been recently deployed at the Gran Sasso underground laboratory-LNGS (Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso, Italy), and its upgrade XENONnT is in advanced design stages. We are also engaged in local R&D activities and calibration measurements, designed to enhance our understanding of current liquid xenon detectors and test new ideas for next generation detectors.
Most of the work will be carried out on campus. However, trips to LNGS, as well as other relevant meetings, are foreseen.
The successful candidate will participate in several of the group's activities. These include:
- Data analysis and Monte-Carlo simulation of XENON1T .
- Operation of the XENON1T detector and the Slow Control system.
- Hardware projects for XENONnT
- Development of advanced statistical methods.
- Experimental activities on campus, which include physics of radiation detectors in liquid Xe, and measurements of basic physics properties of liquid Xe detectors.
The Weizmann Institute is located in Rehovot, a 20 minute drive from Tel-Aviv. It was rated by "The Scientist" as the best place to work in research outside the Unites States, and the official language is English. The position is open to citizens of all countries. Individuals belonging to under-represented groups, women and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
To apply, please send a Curriculum Vitae, publications list, a statement describing your research experience and interests, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to Dr. Ran Budnik, ran.budnik@weizmann.ac.il.
