Job description:

The Division of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy at the California Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track professorial position in astronomy and astrophysics.

Fields of interest include, but are not limited to: high-energy astrophysics, compact objects, galactic dynamics and evolution, accretion, stellar astronomy, exoplanets, the formation and evolution of stars and planetary systems, galaxies, and the large-scale structure of the universe. We are considering an appointment in both theoretical and observational/data/instrumental astrophysics.

An exceptional array of facilities is headquartered at Caltech. Currently in operation are: the Keck and Palomar Observatories, OVRO, NuSTAR, Spitzer Science Center, IPAC, NASA Exoplanet Science Institute, LIGO Laboratory, and the Caltech Center for Data-Driven Discovery. Ongoing development projects include ZTF and the Thirty Meter Telescope.

We are seeking highly qualified candidates committed to a career in research and teaching. Applications should include curriculum vitae, a list of papers published and submitted (with refereed papers indicated), a brief essay describing the applicant's research interests and the program of research he/she proposes to carry out at Caltech, and a brief teaching statement.
