Job description:

DESCRIPTION

The Neutrino Group at University of California, Irvine invites applications for a postdoctoral research position. The successful candidate will participate in hardware, software development and data analysis in DUNE, NOvA and Super-K experiments.

DUNE is the next generation long-baseline experiment which will decisively determine the mass hierarchy and CP violation. DUNE detectors are based on liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) technology. Construction of DUNE’s protoType detector protoDUNE will start in 2017 at CERN. A postdoctoral researcher in our group is expected to do R&D of LArTPC at UCI and could also be involved in the installation and operation tasks of protoDUNE at CERN. The candidate is also expected to contribute to software development and data analysis for DUNE and protoDUNE.

NOvA is the largest current running neutrino experiment in the US, which has a good chance to determine the mass hierarchy in the next few years. There are great opportunities for the postdoctoral researcher to play a leading role in the data analysis and software development at NOvA. As UCI is a major US Super-K group, the candidate may also have an opportunity to analyze data collected by Super-K.

We are seeking a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics with the skills to work in both detector development and data analysis. Applicants should prepare a curriculum vitae, a description of research interests and arrange for three letters of recommendation. Applicants should apply at UC Irvine’s online application system, RECRUIT, located at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/apply/JPF03681
