Job description:

Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate in High Energy Physics in the Department of Physics.

This is a post in the Dark Matter and Neutrino group to work on dark matter direct detection experimentation.  The group is active in the current DEAP-3600 and near-future LZ dark matter direct detection experiments, and in the next-generation global long-baseline neutrino oscillation programme.  On DEAP-3600 the group leads the calibration, and is strongly involved in developing WIMP search analysis tools.  On LZ we are involved in developing detector calibration sub-systems with the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL).  The group has a broad detector development programme, as part of which we are engaged in gas TPC R&D with applications to directional dark matter detection and to neutrino beam near detector technology.

This post will involve working with a team applying multidisciplinary skills in the general areas of hardware, software, and analysis.  The aim of this work is to produce world-leading dark matter search results from DEAP-3600 data in the near term, and contribute to design and construction of the calibration sub-system with RAL for the next-generation LZ experiment.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Experimental Particle Physics or a closely related area, as well as prior experience relevant to one or more of the following: (I) low-background experimentation; (ii) dark matter direct detection search analysis development; or, (iii) design, simulation, construction, and/or analysis of detector calibration systems.

This is a full time post, available from October 1, 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter.  For informal discussion about the post please contact Prof. Jocelyn Monroe at Jocelyn.Monroe@rhul.ac.uk or Dr. Asher Kaboth at Asher.Kaboth@rhul.ac.uk.

Further details of the duties and responsibilities of the position, as well as the required qualifications, can be found in the job description and person specification listed with the post.  The RHUL Recruitment Team can be contacted with queries by email at: recruitment@rhul.ac.uk.

Please arrange for two letters of recommendation to be submitted by the closing date.
