Job description:
TRIUMF, Canada's National Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics, carries out fundamental research on the structure of matter using accelerated particle beams. TRIUMF’s staff of 500 supports over 500 annual scientific visitors, two thirds of whom come from outside Canada.  TRIUMF also enables Canadian researchers working at other international laboratories, including CERN, JPARC, and Jefferson Laboratory.
 
At present, we are seeking an internationally recognized individual with superb scientific and leadership skills who will be appointed as Associate Laboratory Director for TRIUMF’s Accelerator Division (ALD-AD). The Division  supports the TRIUMF mission through the operations and upgrades of the 500 MeV cyclotron and ISAC, the world’s most intense ISOL facility, construction of the ARIEL facility, including a 50 MeV SRF linear electron accelerator, and though long-term developments.

The ALD-AD will assume overall responsibility for safe, efficient and reliable operation of all accelerator facilities at TRIUMF and will provide leadership and direction to the 120 staff within this division. He/she will have the opportunity to develop and lead new accelerator and beam initiatives consistent with TRIUMF’s scientific programs and to continue developing research and education profile in accelerator science. As a member of the TRIUMF leadership team, the ALD-AD will participate in defining the science goals and development strategies for the laboratory. The successful candidate will have a record of achievement with the operation and R&D of accelerators at large user facilities and a strong interest in the scientific exploitation of the facilities at TRIUMF as well as the development of future major accelerator projects in Canada and worldwide.  Qualifications include a PhD, or equivalent experience, in accelerator physics and technology or a related field. TRIUMF is located on the campus of the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, and is operated as a joint venture by nineteen Canadian universities and funded through a contribution from the National Research Council (NRC).  Our compensation package is competitive, and equivalent to that of a full professor at a Canadian university.  Please note that the position is open to all qualified applicants, and in the case of equal qualifications, preference may be given to a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
