What You Will Do
A postdoctoral position in Experimental Nuclear Physics is available with the Subatomic Physics Group (P-25), Physics Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory. We are seeking exceptional candidates to join us to work in the fields of fundamental neutron physics and application of neutron physics. LANL is leading major efforts in the field of fundamental neutron physics. Our current efforts include: (1) measurement of the electron asymmetry in neutron decay using bottled ultra-cold neutrons (the UCNA experiment), (2) development of a cryogenic experiment to search for the neutron electric dipole moment (the SNS nEDM experiment), (3) precision measurement of neutron decay parameters using cold neutrons (the Nab experiment), (4) a measurement of the neutron lifetime using bottled ultra-cold neutrons (the UCNτ experiment), and (5) development of a new room temperature experiment to search for the neutron electric dipole moment using the LANL ultracold neutron source (LANL nEDM experiment). In addition, we have recently developed a new method to study material damages caused by fission using ultracold neutrons.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development and execution of various aspects of one or two of the experiments mentioned above. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to publish his or her results to the international community and to further his/her career by speaking in a variety of venues.
