Job description:
The Beam Physics and Accelerators Group (BPAG) at Northern Illinois University (NIU) is seeking applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in Beam Physics and Accelerator Science. The position is for two years, renewable for an additional year, subject to availability of funds and mutual desire.
 
 
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will develop theories, numerical methods, simulations, and performance analysis and optimization tools for nonlinear integrable Hamiltonian systems, and apply them to various aspects of the Integrable Optics Test Accelerator at Fermilab. Collaborate with NIU faculty and students, and Fermilab staff on beam physics topics related to future Fermilab facilities based on IOTA as they arise. Other relevant tasks aimed at the intensity frontier in accelerator physics may be pursued as well.
Required Qualifications
 
Doctor of Philosophy in physics, with specialization in beam physics, accelerator science, or computational physics, and 0-3 years beyond Ph.D.; or Doctor of Philosophy in applied mathematics or computer science, and 2-3 years of experience in scientific computing.
 
Preferred Skills
 
Demonstrate knowledge of the systems and operations used within the areas and departments of responsibility. Assimilate work within the context of activities of the accelerator science community as a whole. Identify and resolve technical problems, both at the conceptual as well as practical/algorithmic level. Possess excellent oral and written communications skills.
