Job description:
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) combines its three core tasks: research, higher
education, and innovation within one mission. With about 9,400 employees and 25,000
students, KIT is one of the big institutions of research and higher education in natural
sciences and engineering in Europe.

In Division V – Physics and Mathematics – the KIT Department of Physics invites applications
for a

Professorship (W3) of Experimental Particle Physics

at the Institute of Experimental Nuclear Physics (IEKP). We are looking for outstanding
candidates with a research focus on precision measurements at electron-positron colliders,
especially on B physics, and on the development of software algorithms and detectors. The
successful candidate is expected to strengthen and expand the existing and planned
collaborative research efforts in the Belle II experiment in Tsukuba Japan, and for a future
linear collider detector.

KIT offers a rich research area in particle and astroparticle physics within the KIT Center
Elementary Particle and Astroparticle Physics (KCETA). Highlights are the CMS experiment
at the Large Hadron Collider, the Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina, the KATRIN neutrino
experiment and the AMS-II detector on the International Space Station. To enable these
experimental activities, the IEKP features a powerful technical infrastructure with a
semiconductor laboratory, workshop and computer cluster. The Tier1 Computing Centre
GridKa is located at KIT. Furthermore, close collaborations exist with strong groups of
(astro)particle theorists and phenomenologists.

Research at IEKP is funded by the BMBF, the DFG, and the Helmholtz Association. Important
elements for the training of doctoral researchers are the DFG Research Training Group 1694
and the international Graduate School KSETA, funded within the Excellence Initiative II.

The professor will become a member of the institute directorate and assume responsibilities
in the academic self-administration. Teaching duties comprise core courses and elective
courses on experimental physics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our
undergraduate courses are held in German, and the new professor is expected to teach in
German language within a reasonable period of time. Applicants must have obtained a
Habilitation or an equivalent scientific qualification with experience in teaching.

KIT is pursuing a gender equality policy and encourages women to apply. Furthermore, in
case of equal qualification, preference is given to applicants with documented disabilities. The
requirements for appointment correspond to § 47 of the Baden-Württembergisches
Landeshochschulgesetz (LHG).

Applications with the usual résumé (including a summary of teaching experience, a research
plan and a list of the five most important publications), should be sent by September 9, 2016
to: Dekan der KIT-Fakultät für Physik, Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT), Campus
Süd, 76128 Karlsruhe
electronic submissions to email:dekanat@physik.kit.edu are
preferred.

KIT – The Research University in the Helmholtz Association.
