Job description:
The University of Victoria Particle Physics Group invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position working on the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC.
The ATLAS group at Victoria consists of over twenty-‐five scientists including six faculty members -‐- Justin Albert, Richard Keeler, Bob Kowalewski, Rob McPherson, Michel Lefebvre and Randall Sobie -‐-‐ making
significant contributions to ATLAS liquid argon calorimetry, high-‐level trigger, computing and physics analysis. The group is also active in the design and construction of upgrades of ATLAS liquid argon calorimeter electronics and the new small wheels for the muon end-‐caps. An essential component of group activities includes physics analysis using ATLAS data. The group is currently active in physics with jets, missing energy and leptons, including topics such as top-‐quarks, dark matter, supersymmetry, QCD, and Higgs.
The successful candidate will be expected to take a leading role in either computing or the liquid argon calorimeter upgrades.
• Our group is responsible for components of the ATLAS liquid-‐argon electronic readout upgrades for the calorimeter trigger (phase-‐I) and is actively studying the design of the data readout (phase-‐II) upgrade. Activities include the testing of electronic systems and their installation on the ATLAS detector for phase-‐I and studying the effect of different analogue electronic designs and digital algorithms on the quality of ATLAS calorimeter data for the high-‐luminosity LHC.
• Our group plays a leading role in the development and utilization of private and commercial cloud computing resources around the world for the ATLAS Collaboration. Experience with HEP software and tools would be an asset.
The candidate should have a PhD in experimental particle physics by the time of the appointment, and experience in particle physics analysis. The position will be initially based at the University of Victoria, with travel to CERN. The starting date will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
Candidates should send a CV and arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation sent to:
