Field of Interest:hep-ex
Experiments:CERN-LHC-ATLAS
Region: Europe

Job description:
The group of Frank Siegert at the Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics at the TU Dresden will have an opening for a

Postdoc position (pay scale: E 13 TV-L)

working on the ATLAS experiment to be filled from 1 July 2016 or later. The contract will be fixed term lasting for 2 years with a possible extension to 3 years, and includes the possibility to spend part of the time based at CERN.

The position will be funded by the DFG within the Emmy Noether research group "Precision Monte Carlo event generators and LHC measurements", which focuses on the improved interplay between LHC experiments and theory. This junior research group is embedded in an institute with two other ATLAS groups. The institute participates in the graduate school "Mass, Spectrum, Symmetry" together with HU Berlin and DESY Zeuthen. There are also strong links with Monte Carlo developers within the "MCnet" Marie Curie Initial Training Network of the EU.

The successful candidate is expected to lead ATLAS physics analyses relevant for the better understanding and modelling of QCD effects and contribute to collaboration responsibilities, e.g. with support for Monte-Carlo event generators within the experiment.

Candidates should hold a very good Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the area of particle physics and have research experience with a central role in an ATLAS physics analysis. Experience with Monte Carlo event generators and potentially the Rivet toolkit would be desirable.

Qualified candidates will be requested to submit their application including a Curriculum Vitae, a brief proposal describing their research experience and interests, and the names of at least two referees supporting their application, preferably by e-mail as a single PDF-document to: frank.siegert@cern.ch or by mail to: TU Dresden, Institut fuer Kern- und Teilchenphysik, Dr. Frank Siegert,  01062 Dresden, Germany. At the same time, please arrange for your referees to send their support letters to the same address, which can also be used for enquiries about the position.

Applications will remain open until the position has been filled.

Applications from women are particularly welcome. The same applies to people with disabilities.
