DESY, Hamburg location, is seeking:
Physicist (f/m) Beamline P22 (Tenure Track)

DESY

DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics.

Looking back on a long tradition in research with synchrotron radiation, DESY is one of the leading centres in the field of photon science worldwide. With the storage ring PETRA III and the Free-Electron-Laser FLASH, DESY offers a unique combination of photon sources to the scientific community. PETRA III, one of the most brilliant hard X-ray facilities worldwide, provides a total of 16 undulator beamlines for experiments utilizing the extreme source brilliance. As part of an extension of the PETRA III facility, a new undulator beamline for hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is currently being implemented. DESY is seeking an experienced scientist to lead the beamline team to manage the user operation of the beamline, to develop an internationally competitive scientific program and to conceive innovative instrumentation for electron spectroscopy techniques making use of bright synchrotron X-rays.

The position
-Lead a team to commission and operate an X-ray undulator beamline for user experiments focusing on photoelectron applications using hard X-rays
-Develop own independent and collaborative research using state-of-theart synchrotron X-ray photoelectron techniques
-Work committed in a team oriented environment together with international experts in the field

Requirements
-Ph.D. in physics or a related field
-Record of strong experience with photoelectron spectroscopy techniques using synchrotron radiation
-Experimental skills and interest in instrumentation development
-Teamwork abilities
-Good knowledge of X-ray physics beneficial
-Excellent knowledge of English
