The Department is involved in forefront research in the areas of ultra-high energy cosmic ray physics, neutrino-astronomy, and hot and dense nuclear matter. The successful candidate will join a team of about 15 people working on the Pierre Auger Observatory, the world’s largest cosmic ray observatory, conceived to solve the long-standing puzzle about the origin of ultra-high energy cosmic rays. The upgrade AugerPrime foresees to complement each of the 1660 water-Cherenkov Stations with a 4 m2 scintillation detector and with new electronics. The group at Wuppertal is involved in the operation and data analysis and will contribute mostly with photosensors and electronics to AugerPrime.
