Job description:
ATLAS post-doctoral research position at the Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen University, Denmark
Application deadline: 31st of May 2016.
The Experimental High Energy Particle Physics group at Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for a post-doctoral research position funded by the Villum Foundation in the ATLAS experiment, with starting date 1st of September 2016 or soon thereafter.
The successful applicant will participate full time in the exciting task of analysing the first high luminosity 13 TeV data from the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The PostDoc position is for two years with the possibility of an extension for one additional year.
Research environment:
The NBI HEP group's research activity concentrates on the ATLAS experiment, but is also active in the IceCube experiment and in studies of the future projects SHIP and FCC. The local ATLAS group is highly involved in most aspects of the Transition Radiation Tracker and in several physics analysis spanning from QCD and ElectroWeak measurements to searches for additional Higgs and other exotics particles. The candidate is expected to play a leading role within these topics in particular the LHC Run2 searches. The NBI ATLAS group is currently composed of about 20 members (staff and students), which as part of the newly extended DISCOVERY center provides a very lively and stimulating place for research in particle physics.
The successful candidate will be based in Copenhagen, but should expect some travel activity to CERN and elsewhere for meetings, workshops, and shifts. Due to external funding from the Villum Foundation, the travel and equipment budget is very competitive. If interested, the candidate will also have the possibility to assist in teaching and/or supervision of students.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this post-doctoral position the candidate must have completed a Ph.D. degree (or at least defended their Ph.D. thesis) in particle physics or a related field by the time of appointment (1st of September 2016 or shortly thereafter).
Furthermore, candidates should have demonstrated experience in data analysis in High Energy Physics (or possibly in a similar field) and be able to work fairly independently. In addition, skills in programming and GRID computing are also desirable. The working language is English, thus excellent English speaking, reading, and writing skills are required.
Application:
Applications should be submitted before 31st of May 2016, 23:59 GMT +1, and should include:
• A statement of research interests and motivation for joining the NBI ATLAS group (max. 2 pages) • Curriculum Vitae, including prior research, analysis, and computing experience (max. 2 pages)
• Transcripts of diploma of degrees obtained (Ph.D. and possibly master).
• List of selected publications with a short description of contribution(s) to these (max. 1 page).
• Contact information for 2-3 references, from which letters of reference can be obtained.
The application, in English, must be submitted electronically by clicking “Apply Now” on the official job posting page at: http://employment.ku.dk/faculty/?show=822587
Applications received after the deadline may not be considered. Questions and/or requests for additional information should be directed by Email to Associate Professor Troels Petersen, petersen@nbi.dk, Discovery Centre for particle physics. Applicants can expect a final response by August 2016.
The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background. The main criterion for selection will be the research potential of the applicant and the above mentioned qualifications.
Salary and terms of employment:
The successful applicant will be hired as a postdoctoral fellow for an initial 2-year period, with the possibility of one years extension. The starting salary level is currently monthly between DKK 32.090 and 33.790 plus a 17% pension contribution with the possibility of further salary negotiation. Terms of appointment and payment are in accordance with the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC). The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
