LUDWIG-MAXIMILIANS-UNIVERSITÄT MÜNCHEN  - Experimentelle Physik LS-Schaile

Postdoctoral Research Position in Experimental Particle Physics

Our Profile:
The Experimental Particle Physics group (Chair of Prof. Schaile) at Ludwig-Maximilians-
University (LMU) is engaged in the ATLAS experiment at the LHC collider. Besides data
analysis we are working on the Phase-1 upgrade of the Small Wheel of the ATLAS Muon
Spectrometer System which will be ready for installation in 2019. An involvement in
the Phase-2 upgrade of the Muon System is now starting.

Your Profile:
You should have a PhD in experimental physics with interest and expertise in particle
detector physics, especially gaseous detectors and highly integrated readout electronics.
Experience with high-energy particle physics experiments, with data acquisition systems,
Linux and C++ is essential.  Knowledge about electronics design, FPGA programming, and
advanced telecommunication computing architecture (ATCA) is beneficial.

Your Duties:
You are expected to establish and lead the ATLAS Muon System Phase-2 upgrade efforts of
our group.  This includes contributions to the Initial Design Review, to be completed
in the first half of 2016, to the Technical Design Review which is scheduled for end
of 2017, and to test beam measurements at CERN and at our local Tandem accelerator.
The detailed duties and responsibilities will be defined according to your profile,
interest and expertise. Besides the work for Phase-2 a contribution to the Phase-1
effort is expected in particular at the begining of your appointment.

Our Offer:
We offer a full-time position with a salary corresponding to E13 TV-L and with an
initial duration until June 2018. An extension is possible but subject to continued
funding. Your workplace is located on the research campus in Garching which is well
reachable by public transport. We offer an interesting and responsible position with
the possibility for further training.

The LMU is an equal opportunity employer and particularly welcomes applications of
persons with disabilities. The application of female scientists is strongly encouraged.

Your Application:
Your application should include a resume, copies of certificates and a description
of research interests. Please send your application by mail or e-mail and arrange
for three letters of reference sent directly to
