Field of Interest:hep-ex
Experiments:DUNE, CAPTAIN
Deadline: 2016-09-30
Region: North America
Job description:
The experimental particle physics group at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in neutrino physics. The successful candidate will work the liquid argon TPC-based neutrino program (CAPTAIN, DUNE).
The Cryogenic Apparatus for Precision Tests of Argon Interaction with Neutrinos (CAPTAIN) program addresses issues in medium-energy neutrino and low-energy neutrino physics crucial for the success of the DUNE experiment. In the near-term, we will measure neutron interactions in liquid argon at Los Alamos National Laboratory with a 400 kg instrumented prototype detector, Mini-CAPTAIN. In parallel, we will assemble, commission and deploy the 5-ton CAPTAIN detector with the Minerva experiment at Fermilab to explore neutrino-argon interactions at neutrino energies relevant to the long-baseline and atmospheric neutrino programs for DUNE. The successful candidate will become expert on one or more aspects of the hardware and will lead an area of the physics analysis.
Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae, list of publications, and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to: Professor Christopher Mauger, (cmauger@ upenn.edu). Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The University of Pennsylvania is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
